Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary Reopens with Extended Safari Timings


The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the core areas of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, has announced the reopening of all safari zones with extended timings for the 2024-25 season. The sanctuary, spread over 344 square kilometres, is home to elephants, tigers, leopards, gaur, sambar deer, and hundreds of bird species. New Safari Timings Morning Safari: 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM. Evening Safari: 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Night Safari (Muthanga Zone only): 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM (requires advance booking). Zones Open for Visitors The Muthanga zone is the most popular entry point and offers the best chance of wildlife sightings. The Tholpetty zone in the northern part of the sanctuary is known for leopard and elephant sightings. Online Booking All safari bookings must now be made online through the Kerala Forest Department portal at least 24 hours in advance. Walk-in spots are limited to 20% of total capacity. Stay Options Near the Sanctuary Several certified resorts and homestays near Muthanga and Tholpetty offer early morning safari packages. These properties coordinate with the forest department to ensure guests reach the gates on time.
