Chembra Peak Trek: Everything You Need to Know Before You Go
Chembra Peak, standing at 2,100 metres above sea level, is the highest peak in Wayanad and one of the most popular trekking destinations in South India. Here is everything you need to know before attempting this iconic trek. Trek Details Distance: 7 km round trip. Difficulty: Moderate. Duration: 4 to 5 hours. Starting point: Meppadi, near Kalpetta. The Heart-Shaped Lake The highlight of the Chembra trek is the heart-shaped lake near the summit. This naturally formed lake never dries up, even during summer, and has become an iconic symbol of Wayanad. The panoramic views from the top stretch across Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram districts. Permits and Timing Trekking is permitted from 7 AM to 2 PM. A forest department permit is required, obtainable at the Meppadi Forest Office. Guides are mandatory and available at the base. What to Carry Carry sufficient water, energy snacks, a raincoat during monsoon season, and good trekking shoes. The trail can be slippery after rain. Best Season October to February is ideal. Avoid the peak monsoon months of June to August when the trail is extremely slippery. Several resorts near Meppadi offer comfortable stays before and after the trek.
